The Colombian Bio-geographical Chocó is one of the most bio-diverse and endemic regions, in addi- tion to highlighting the record for highest rainfall known. Although lush rainforests still cover much of its territory, this mega-diverse region faces multiple processes of degradation, that affect the biodi- versity, the quantity and quality of its habitat, its structure and functionality, giving space, with increasing speed, to simplified forest systems, artificially discrete and insular a phenomena known as ecosystem fragmentation, whose liabilities transcend the aforementioned mega-impacts and promotes the erosion of their biocenosis or extinction and permanent loss of evolutionary histories and environmental services that originate in these complex jungle systems. From this perspective and in consideration of a broad consultation of bibliographic and scientific reference sources, necessary and conducive to the arguments of the debate, in the context of the biology of conserva- tion and its paradigms, this paper proposed to establish basic conceptual and methodological supports for understanding the phenomenon and its implications in the field of alternative con- servation and sustainability, with the intention of exploring and promoting social and environmental mitigation strategies and policies in the Chocó and its related ecosystems.
