Social response to health problema in the Buenaventura special district

Respuesta social a los problemas de salud en el distrito especial de Buenaventura

The objetive of this study is to describe the characteristics of the social response to health problems in the urban area of the Municipality of Buenaventura, Colombia in the year 2012. This is a descrip- tive qualitative and quantitative study, using a random sampling and interviews with users and staff of formal and informal health system. The study found the user preference in the use of formal health services, while users of informal health services also declare satisfaction in the attention they receive in some diseases care. There is a prevalence in the use of Western medicine for the treat- ment of most diseases in the town, and in the other side there is a search for users by traditional informal systems. Favorable social answer was found in both health systems services, given the results of the treatment received in the doctor patient relationship, despite the deficiencies in the health service offered.
